چکیده

Abstract Background Zooplankton provides a dynamic habitat to various kinds of epibionts in the marine ecosystem and also forms source food nutrients parasites parasitoids. The study was conducted identify association ciliates with calanoid copepod Northeastern Arabian Sea. samples collected were analysed under stereomicroscope for any kind ciliate attachments. infective stage major characteristics discussed. present observation is first report apostome Vampyrophrya pelagica on Bestiolina similis from open ocean waters off Tarapur, Sea, during early spring intermonsoon season new host record ciliate. Results Analysis ~ 2530 revealed presence 12 specimens infested pelagica. All copepod, identified as similis, females. Approximately 50–60 occupied endocuticular region. V. represented by fully grown trophont characterized large vacuole surrounded thin layer cytoplasm numerous lipid bodies. Conclusion establishes record, B. its Indian extends biogeographic boundary

Predation effects of the calanoid copepod

This study investigated feeding rates and selective feeding of the common copepod Acartia tonsa on mixtures of the heterotrophic dinoflagellate Protoperidinium cf. divergens and the cooccurring red-tide dinoflagellate Gonyaulax polyedra and predation effects of A. tonsa on the population growth of P cf. divergens during simulated red-tide and non-red-tide periods. Ingestion and clearance rates ...

Prevalent Ciliate Symbiosis on Copepods: High Genetic Diversity and Wide Distribution Detected Using Small Subunit Ribosomal RNA Gene

Toward understanding the genetic diversity and distribution of copepod-associated symbiotic ciliates and the evolutionary relationships with their hosts in the marine environment, we developed a small subunit ribosomal RNA gene (18S rDNA)-based molecular method and investigated the genetic diversity and genotype distribution of the symbiotic ciliates on copepods. Of the 10 copepod species repre...

Timing of embryonic quiescence determines viability of embryos from the calanoid copepod, Acartia tonsa (Dana)

Like 41 other calanoid copepods, Acartia tonsa, are capable of inducing embryonic quiescence when experiencing unfavorable environmental conditions. The ecdysone-signaling cascade is known to have a key function in developmental processes like embryogenesis and molting of arthropods, including copepods. We examined the role of ecdysteroid-phosphate phosphatase (EPPase), ecdysone receptor (EcR),...

Influences of Temperature on Development and Survival, Reproduction and Growth of a Calanoid Copepod (Pseudodiaptomus dubia)

Pseudodiaptomus dubia is a calanoid copepod that is distributed widely in the estuarine-coastal waters of Asia and is a dominant copepod in the shrimp grow-out ponds in southern China. A laboratory culture experiment was conducted to evaluate the influences of water temperature on larval development, survival, and reproduction. Results indicate that within a temperature range from 15 to 35 C de...
